How to recover data in various cases

Files have been deleted and trash has been emptied
Files/directories are lost
Hard disk has been formatted
A volume is lost (unrecognized drive)
Operating system is not bootable.

Files have been deleted or trash has been emptied

If you have deleted files and then emptied trash, the corresponding files will not be shown in the trash anymore. Files deleted by a user accessing your system through a network share are also not stored in the trash.

To perform the recovery, select the type of media that contained the files in Step 1. Then select the volume where the files were deleted in Step 2. Finally, choose Deleted File Recovery in Step 3 and save your recovered files on another drive.

If you could not find the data you were looking for, Go Back and try choosing Formatted Media Recovery. This scan will take much longer, but may find the files that were not found in the Deleted File Recovery.

Files/directories are lost

If you are missing files and directories, and they were not deleted, you should try using the Formatted Media Recovery. This will look for lost files and folders...

Hard disk has been formatted

To recover data from a formatted drive, but did not change the partition, you could first try choosing the volume in Step 2 and then choose Formatted Media Recovery in Step 3. After the scan completes, save your recovered files on another drive.

If you reformatted the drive and changed the file system or the partition size, you should choose the disk in Step 2 and then choose Formatted Media Recovery in Step 3. After the scan completes, save your recovered files on another drive.

Volume is lost (unrecognized drive)

If a drive is not recognized, or fails to mount, you should try choosing the disk in Step 2 and then choose Search Lost Volumes in Step 3. This will scan the drive for lost volume headers only. When the scan for lost volumes is finished, you will be back at Step 2, where you are asked to select the volume to scan. If the program was able to locate a lost volume, then it will be displayed with a green icon. Choose this drive and proceed as you would on a normal volume. You will be able to browse the volume, look for deleted files, and look for lost files. Then you can save them to another location on your system.

System is not bootable

If your computer has only one hard disk and the system cannot start, you can recover your data by attaching that disk as an external drive to a system with FILERECOVERYŽ installed. FILERECOVERYŽ can only be run on a working system.

If the hard disk is not recognized by the system at boot time, the disk may have physical damage. A data recovery of physical damaged drives cannot be performed by software.
